Personal Statement Workshop
We’re inviting all high school seniors in SFUSD to register, attend, and get that extra boost of support, and all available 826 Valencia tutors in the community to come out to work alongside them as they write, revise, and edit these important responses. We are hoping to serve more than 200 students again this year.

SOTA Audition Assignment Workshops (SOTA Applicants)
If you’re in eighth grade and planning to apply to RUTH ASAWA SAN FRANCISCO SCHOOL OF THE ARTS, we’re here to help. 826 Valencia is teaming up with SOTA’s Creative Writing Literary Arts track to offer you guidance and feedback on your application in time for this year’s December 13 deadline. We’ll have current SOTA students there who know the application process inside and out, because they’ve done it before!

Personal Narrative Workshops:

After registering, staff will reach out to offer a spot depending on eligibility and availability in the program. Our workshops are open to anyone, but we do give priority to SFUSD students with socio-economic need and hold spaces for students enrolled in our other programs.

Wondrous Wordsmiths

This fall, we are offering middle school students the opportunity to strengthen their writing skills while exploring their identity and voice. During this six-week workshop, students will use writing for self-exploration and advocacy, culminating in a class publication.

The Valencia Bay-farer #75
This fall, we are excited to offer a six-week workshop for students ages 9-13. As a reporter for the student-reported Valencia Bay-farer, you’ll experience the process news reporters use to brainstorm, research, and write compelling articles.In this workshop, students will spend six weeks researching a specific news topic and write a compelling article. They will learn how to conduct interviews, cite sources, and how to hook readers! On the last day of this workshop, students will receive their published newspaper and will read their articles in front of friends and families.
This workshop will take place down the street from the 826 Valencia Writing Lab in The Women’s Building (3543 18th St #8).
